Oscars Rule Change Guarantees 5 Nominees For Best Song

The Best Original Song category in last year’s Academy Awards had the odd distinction of featuring just two nominees. Bret McKenzie‘s “Man or Muppet” (from The Muppets) faced off against Rio's "Real Or Rio,” and the Flight Of The Conchords funnyman took home the Oscar. Because of the category’s tedious and nonsensical scoring system, acts like Madonna, Elton John and Pink didn’t secure nominations last year. Thankfully, the Academy has reworked the voting rules and the songs with the top five votes will be entered in as nominees beginning with next year’s show. Which also means we’ll get to see more live performances. Bravo!
