Kaelen Haworth is probably stressed and sleep deprived right now preparing for her spring 2013 show tomorrow. But rewind a couple of weeks when she was shooting her look book in Montauk with fashion’s latest it-girl, Hannah Bronfman, and she was totally relaxed.
Why? For one, there was a moho. That’s short for mobile home, Kaelen told me, and for the duration of the shoot it was stocked with beer and wine and delicious chicken salad. Oh, and it doubled as the hair and makeup trailer too.
The moho was crucial for Kaelen’s latest look book shoot, because they needed to park it right by the beach, where Hannah Bronfman posed for hours on end (until 1 a.m. one night) in heels on a rock in the ocean modeling Kaelen’s latest creations.
“We just felt like challenging ourselves,” Kaelen told me. “It’s not about sunset-on-a-beach pretty–it’s really stark. Our direction for Hannah was like, ‘you’re lost, you don’t know where you are’…we wanted it to feel lonely and expansive and a touch off.”
If it seems risky to have a model posing it heels on a slippery rock in the ocean around midnight that’s because it is. A styling assistant stood by to “catch [Hannah] if she went flying,” Kaelen said.
But 24-year-old Bronfman said it was “easy peasy.”
Behold the moho!
We’ve been hearing Bronfman’s name more and more in the fashion “it-girl” scene but she seems pretty unfazed by it. “It’s weird,” Bronfman said of being embraced by the fashion world. “Obviously it’s awesome when people are asking me to wear their clothes–but it’s weird because it’s not the world I grew up in. I build apps and I gorge food–but it’s a nice release from the stuff I actually work on.” As for the stuff she actually works on? It sounds pretty cool. She’s developing apps to help people source local food. And they should be out within the year.
Regardless, we think we’ll be seeing a lot more of Bronfman in the fashion world. Starting with these gorgeous behind-the-scenes shots of Kaelen’s look book shoot.
