What Is All the Fuzz About? How to Wear Fuzzy Sweaters for Fall

Time to bring out the bulky clothing because fall/winter is already upon us, and we can't afford to freeze our buttocks off for the sake of fashion, can we? Fortunately for us, a handful of fashion bloggers are going to show us how to wear bulk and fuzz for fall without looking like a creature from Monsters, Inc. Here are five of our handpicked bloggers who will show us what all the fuzz is about:

1. Bebe of Fated to be Hated

Bebe of Fated to be Hated

What would fall be without leather? Try a tiered fuzzy sweater in hues of gray and match it with a black leather mini skirt. Pick out a pair of sheer stockings and black leather flats to complete your androgynous look. (Did we mention that we love the lace trim on her skirt?)

Shop her look:

Baxley Diane Von Furstenberg NaturalSoul

BB Dakota Baxley Striped Sweater, $26.50 (before: $88.00) / Diane Von Furstenberg Black Lace And Leather Elley Mini Skirt, $179 (before: $298) / NaturalSoul by Naturalizer Villagio Smoking Flats, $47.99 (before: $59.99)

2. Malin of Spark and Bark

Malin of Spark and Bark

Okay, so this one may not be fuzzy but it is bulky, and we are all about schooling fashionistas on proportions here. Plus, how adorable is this holiday glitter-and-lace look? Pick out a fresh color for your sweater and pair it with white lace shorts to divert your outfit from the dark hues of fall. Slip into festive glitter flats to put an exclamation point to this ensemble.

Shop her look:

MinkPink Nasty Gal Melissa

MinkPink Be My Baby Fuzzy Jumper, $56.00 / Nasty Gal Gilded Lily Lace Shorts, $24 (before: $48) / Campana + Melissa Shoes Campana Zig Zag 4 Silver Glitter, 55.00

3. KTR of KTR Style

KTR of KTR Style

This is one of the freshest looks we've seen done on a fuzzy sweater. Pair a cobalt or black colored top with a high-low hemmed full skirt in a bright color (bows at the waist are optional but highly recommended). Put on a pair of metal-strapped sandal heels for that touch of sophistication in this ber girly look.

Shop her look:

Urban Outfitters KTR Charlotte Russe

Urban Outfitters byCORPUS Cozy Popcorn Sweater, $69.00 / KTR Collection High Low Bow Skirt in Fuchsia, $126.00 / Charlotte Russe ID Tag Ankle-Strapped Heel, $35.50

Not willing to let go of your summer overall denims just yet? Fret not, because all you need is a wardrobe update and your denims are on their way to fashion salvation. Pair your white fuzzy friend with light-washed denim overalls, adding a little bit of holiday with a pair of metallic heels. Choose chunky clear heels for that casual chic look.

Wear the Trend: 50′s Skirts Under $50

Out with the short, and in with the midis. Fall/Winter 2014 is all about the midi skirt, and what better way to celebrate this classic silhouette than to splash a little vintage onto it? Whether you're channeling a quirky full-on Zooey Deschanel look or experimenting with ways to mix a little nostalgia with modern pieces, these six skirts are sure to scratch that 50 s itch (did we mention that they're all under $50?).

1.

Ruche

Ruche Green Gables Circle Skirt in Mustard, $39.99

Tone down a bright sunny color to a more fall-friendly subdued one such as a pretty mustard shade. For that 50 s look, find one with a single horizontal stripe that delicately runs right across the entire width of the skirt. Pair it with bolder stripes and a pretty pointed-toe pump (you can throw in some metallic for an instant holiday vibe) and you're all set.

Try the look:

Ruche John Lewis ASOS

Ruche Green Gables Circle Skirt In Mustard, $39.99 / Oasis Stripe Polo Neck Jumper, Black/Beige, 25.00 / ASOS Timeless Oneil Black Heeled Shoes, $49.83 (before: $74.75)

2.

Dorothy Perkins

Dorothy Perkins Black and Stone Midi Skirt, 22

Flower power, anyone? Slapping a 70 s flower print onto an A-line silhouette automatically turns the look from hippie to darling vintage. Complete the look with a turtleneck cap-sleeved crop top and a dual-strapped mary jane pumps to put a little back-to-the-future edge to this look.

Try this look:

Dorothy Perkins Charlotte Russe Dune

Dorothy Perkins Black and Stone Midi Skirt, 22 / Charlotte Russe Cap Sleeve Mock Neck Crop Top, $7.50 (before: $10.99) / Dune Black Patent Aibleen Mary Jane Pointed Toe Court Shoe, 48.00 (before: 69.00

3.

Ruche Corner Store Polka Dot Midi Skirt

Ruche Corner Store Polka Dot Midi Skirt, $42.99

Nothing says Hairspray quite like polka dots (we'd say Grease but leather wins on that one). Put a little modern twist into the polkadot A-line skirt look by going print-on-print with, what else, more polkadots! To get a good contrast, choose different sized dots for your top and skirt, and make sure the colors complement each other. Slip your feet into white ankle-strapped pointed-toe d'orsays for a fresh look.

Try this look:

Ruche Forever 21 Fashion Union

Ruche Corner Store Polka Dot Midi Skirt, $42.99 / Forever 21 Polka Dot Tube Top, $7.80 / Fashion Union White Stiletto Ankle Strap Shoe, 28.00

4.

ASOS Scuba Midi Skirt With Kilt Buckles

ASOS Scuba Midi Skirt With Kilt Buckles, $42.72 (before: $71.19)

Mixing-and-matching not your thing? Not to fret - a monotone outfit makes as strong a statement as a print-on-print one. Go for bold colors such as a firetruck red or orange, and you're sure to get asked out to a burger-and-milkshake date (okay, so maybe that's a wee bit outdated). Just be careful when mixing silhouettes and hues as the wrong combinations may make you end up looking a bit deranged.

Try this look:

ASOS River Island New Look

ASOS Scuba Midi Skirt With Kilt Buckles, $42.72 (before: $71.19) / River Island Bright Pink Ruched Sweetheart Crop Top, $20 (before: $40) / New Look Red Cross Strap Pointed Court Shoes, 12.99 (before: 22.99)

5.

Ruche Prairie Fields Floral Indie Skirt

Ruche Prairie Fields Floral Indie Skirt, $39.99

We've gone with a 70 s floral pattern, so now let's dial it back down to the softer and sweeter florals of the 50 s and 60 s. Pile on the sugar by wearing an off-shoulder top with a sweetheart neckline, partnered with ultra-femme strappy heels in a beige or pinkish nude hue. Don a red lip ala Katy Perry for a stronger vintage feel, or you can opt to stick to lighter shades for a subdued modern take on the era.

Try this look:

Ruche ASOS Nine West

Ruche Prairie Fields Floral Indie Skirt, $39.99 / ASOS Crop Top with Sweetheart Neck and Off Shoulder, $17.80 / Nine West Breezin Platform Sandals, $33.37 (before: $89)

6.

Dorothy Perkins Black Mesh Hem Circle Skirt

Dorothy Perkins Black Mesh Hem Circle Skirt, 22.00

More of a Posh Spice than a Ginger Spice? These 50 s A-line skirts look good in black, too, especially with clever little mesh insets at the hem. If you prefer a little color, pick out an aztec print crop top with a sweetheart neckline. Pair it with a daintily strapped pointed-toe d'orsay to liven up this posh ensemble.

Try this look:

Dorothy Perkins Damned Deluxe ASOS

Dorothy Perkins Black Mesh Hem Circle Skirt, 22.00 / Damned Delux Women's Aztec Binded Bralet Top in Mint/Pink, 12.99 / ASOS Saturday Heels, $44.50

Jennifer Lawrence Does Dior Proud in a Guipure Crop Top

Jennifer Lawrence has had her share of red carpet hits and misses since stepping out into the spotlight around three years ago, with the fashion police going easy on then-19-year-old up-and-coming actress since she was only starting to make a name for herself. At 19, the actress was cast alongside big names such as Halle Berry and Hugh Jackman for the X-Men series, but failed to get international recognition since her character Mystique required that she become unrecognizable onscreen. It wasn't until The Hunger Games was released in 2012 that Jennifer was catapulted straight into the Hollywood spotlight and into the not-so-loving arms of tough fashion critics.

In November of 2012, Jennifer hired the much-coveted stylist to the A-list celebrities, Rachel Zoe, who produced her first big moment on the red carpet at the 2013 Oscars. We're not sure if it was the gorgeous voluminous Dior Couture gown that Rachel Zoe dressed her in (or the fact that she tripped on her way up to the stage to claim her award) that blew up her red carpet moment to epic proportions, but one thing is for sure - Jennifer is no longer letting her style guard down. The actress arrived at the Paris Fashion Week for the Christian Dior show clad in none other than Dior from their Resort 2014 collection.

Jennifer picked out a guipure lace cropped top and matching wool pants ensemble for the show. The beautiful guipure lace top is echoed in the pants by running a lace strip down one leg of the wide-legged pair. Guipure has been a favorite of designers for the last few seasons because it lacks the mesh that usually acts as the foundation for the lace, making the patterns stand out on their own even more. This type of lace has been made even more famous when Victoria's Secret models Miranda Kerr and Candice Swanepoel donned gorgeous guipure dresses from the Australian brand Lover.

Demi Lovato Is Comfortable in Her Own Skin(ny Jeans)

In a world that is increasingly saturated with unattainable idealisms of beauty, social media platforms that promote narcissism, and accessible airbrushing and photo manipulation software, it is becoming equally harder to find celebrity role models that make one feel like it is perfectly okay to be comfortable in one's own skin. Demi Lovato, despite her troubled yet conquered past, is one of these rare celebrity role models.

Since making her strong comeback, Demi has been unapologetic about who she is because who she is - a talented and beautiful woman who embraces her natural curves wholeheartedly - is nothing to be apologetic for. In fact, her motto when it comes to dressing herself up has nothing to do with bouncing her self-image off from another person's, sharing that she dresses herself according to what makes her feel comfortable and beautiful. This is the exact styling mindset that all women should strive for.

Demi has gotten really good at choosing the right silhouettes that emphasize her physical assets, choosing to embrace instead of trying to conceal them. In the Los Angeles leg of The X Factor auditions, Demi chose a pair of very flattering and curve-hugging skinny jeans in a gorgeous gray shade, which she paired with a cotton-blend top and a pair of black pumps.

The popular 620 mid-rise skinny jeans by J Brand have five pockets and are mostly made of cotton. They have slight fading at the front, which gets slightly stronger at the back area, perhaps to emphasize the buttocks. The gray shade remains dark and solid throughout the lower limbs to give the illusion of skinnier ankles. Mid-rise jeans usually look best on those who have lengthy torsos.

Kate Upton Hangs Up Her Dougie for an Altuzarra LBD

Looks like Kate Upton is hanging up her bikinis in the meantime because what we're seeing is a far cry from the dougie-dancing girl that we've become used to. The blond bombshell has traded in her body rolls for a more poised and sophisticated image, exchanging her barely there clothing for a more conservative one-piece. The actress attended the 10th Annual Style Awards held during the New York Fashion Week (spring 2014) in a black Altuzarra zipper dress.

The actress stepped onto the red carpet looking absolutely glamorous with her slightly tousled shoulder-length locks, complementing her suit-dress-like outfit with a pair of classic Jimmy Choo Abel point-toe pumps in claret and a Jimmy Choo black clutch. Her makeup was kept clean and natural, putting the focus around the eyes and leaving the lips au naturel.

The Altuzarra Walker dress looks like a conventional LBD at first glance, but, as they say, the devil is in the details. The dress has a lovely mesh inset on one thigh, which tapers into a zipper decor path. Another zipper line converges with the previous one, giving the dress an overlap illusion that makes it look almost like a suit dress. The padded shoulders add a little formality to the dress.

Five Cutout Skirt Looks That Won’t Upset Your Mom

The saying “the shorter, the better” is no longer accurate for women who try to look more feminine by wearing skirts. In fact, nowadays, a woman need not chop off a good few inches from the bottom of her skirt in order to recreate a look that would express their femininity better – all that is needed is a substantial amount of cutting and a brilliant strategical placing of that cut.

When it comes to cutout tops, pretty much everywhere that one can poke a hole in has already been poked. Designers eventually asked, “Why stop there?” For designers, deciding on where to put a graceful cut on a skirt without revealing too much skin and compromising functionality proved to be a bit challenging, but not all of them are backing off. Hence, the birth of cutout skirts.

We rounded up five of our favorite blogger looks for these ironic rule-breaking but structured babies.

Maria of Stylissim

Mara of Stylissim

Having a skirt that looks like a giant chomped down its front has never looked this chic. Choose a graceful round cut that’s not too wide and show off a comfortable amount of extra leg. For the illusion of longer legs, go for a high-waisted pencil skirt. If you’re not confident about the length of your torso, lower waistlines should do the trick. For a laid-back but still ladylike look, pair the skirt with a slouchy graphic sweater and pumps.

Isabella of Views of Now

Isabella of Views of Now

This look shows that it’s all about location, location, location (that and the gorgeous angular cut that is aptly proportional to the height of the skirt). The cutout need not be huge as long as it complements the entire piece – in this case, the roughness of the skirt material is complemented by the triangle cut and the illusion of a wrap skirt. It pays to be a smart dresser, too, since choosing an open back top complements the angular cutout of the skirt. The look is finished off with black heeled booties.

Witchery Stylenanda Burberry

Witchery Quilted Wrap Mini Skirt, AUD $129.95 / Stylenanda Low Back Tee with Snap Button Closure, $35.01 / Burberry Prorsum Woodley Studded Leather and Calf Hair Wedge Ankle Boots, $1,153.03

Kookie of Death by Platforms

Kookie of Death by Platforms

Sometimes, it’s not about the size or location of the cutout, but rather the gracefulness of the cut. The hemline of the skirt in this look ever so slightly curves upward, but this shy skirt curve brought an abundance of freshness to the fashion table. For a sophisticated but fun look, pair the skirt with a floral or guipure buttondown shirt and sandals with a fun geometric print.

Nadya of Glitter Dessert

Nadya of Glitter Dessert

Not ready to put away your maxis yet? A compromise is in order. This skirt is reminiscent of the trending (and, let’s face it, slightly overused) high-low skirts, but with a fresh structural take to it. This cut is perfect for those who are not quite ready to go all the way short or, for some weird reason, love how the front of their legs look but equally despise the way the back looks. Style it up with a flowy or draped top, chunky neck pieces and some fancy footwear.

New Look Mugler Alaia

New Look Coral Jersey Dip Hem Skirt, 7.00 (before: 14.99) / Mugler Draped Top, $1,065.00 / Ala a Vault Chamois Cloute Sandal, $926.00 (before: $1,852.00)

Michelle of Michetteee

Michelle of Michetteee

What happens when a side slit and a cutout decide to have an offspring? You’re looking at it. This graceful and oh-so-flattering cut is suggestive and sophisticated at the same time. This is perfect for those women who want to look cute and sexy simultaneously (admit it, we’ve all wished that upon ourselves at least once). Pair it with an equally sweet-but-sexy scalloped or lace crop top and some strappy white sandals.
